The pervasive character of the urban condition has generated unprecedented and complex city forms. Metropolitan city, city-territory, generic city, etc., a proliferation of definitions has followed all trying to catch the emergence of the urban condition, to mark its limits, at most denying their existence.
A proliferation of figurations—and counter figurations—have been worked out by the urbanism culture all bringing to radical terms the effect on the planet of production and consumption logics underpinning nowadays urbanisation.
At the same time, the notion of rural continues to navigate not only in common sense but also the administrative and political spheres. And this is not only because of resistance and delay with respect to urban reality in practice.
But where does the city end? Does it actually end and in what terms?
With the city-form, the definition—and concept—of spatial and political but also mental limit is at stake.

NO-CITY SALARIA received the first NO-CITY Summer school.
ALONGALINE is a 8-day intensive course to work out concurrent views of today’s urban entanglement.
It is all about walking, staying, drawing, meeting, sleeping, partying and much more. Eight different schools propose alternative and mixing design approaches in order to cope with the understanding of the urban way of life.

22 November 2021:
NO-CITY SALARIA produced 15 models of 21x21x21cm,
a tool for investigating the 4 themes covered by the laboratory: water, agriculture, forest and abandonment.

Il 09 gennaio 2021 NO-CITY ha percorso la via Salaria,
attraversando l’Italia da piazza Fiume a Roma al lungomare di San Benedetto del Tronto.

It is all about walking, staying, drawing, meeting, sleeping, partying and much more. Eight different schools propose alternative and mixing design approaches in order to cope with the understanding of the urban way of life.
Alongaline will take place between Rome and Monti Reatini, a territory parallel to the Salaria, a Roman road that connects the core of the city, on the Tyrrhenian coast, to the Adriatic by traversing the mountain range of the Apennines. Urbanisation differently intermingles with the many landscapes that span along this line.
The summer school takes advantage of the multiple points of view and methods offered by the organising schools to grasp the many human and other than human interdependencies that stretches along the line and from there to wider territories and operational landscapes of the planet.
Alongaline is open to 40 participants coming from different architecture or urbanism background.
A fee of 250€ is required to join the Summer School, which includes local accommodation, food and transportation.
Send your application at info@no-city.org consisting of a short biography of about 250 words no later than June, 15th.
